De Tjolomadoe was a 6.4-acre sugar factory built by Mangkuneraga IV in 1861. At the time, De Tjolomadoe was the largest sugar factory in Asia and served as a great testament to the economic progress of the Indonesian sugar industry. In 2018, the factory was renovated and now hosts a museum, convention center, and industrial-inspired cafe.
What's the exciting part? Most old building structures are still well looked after, and so are their machines. All the immense devices are still standing there, and the organizer adds an explanation panel so every guest can know what they are.
This iconic landmark is well-loved by the community in Surakarta and is soon regarded as an essential cultural and historical site for tourists.
